Faith & Heart: Uniting to Help Syrian Refugees

June 26, 2016  |  New York City  |  900 volunteers  |  7,500 kits

The Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, BD, FedEx, Henry Schein, and 900 diverse volunteers built 7,500 hygiene kits that will be distributed in Turkey.

The event on Sunday, June 26, brought together individuals and families of diverse faiths to assemble hygiene kits. Over 900 volunteers helped build these kits through the afternoon which will be shipped to Turkey and then distributed to refugees by Orient For Human Relief. The hygiene kits contain the supplies necessary to maintain basic hygiene, thus helping prevent the spread of disease. Participants assembled kits designed to meet the specific needs of women and girls, an especially vulnerable population during times of crisis.

This was a a fun and exciting event held at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York City. Participants had the chance to see the historic Armory, which contains fascinating historical items dating back to the Civil War.

Syria was once my family’s home. My roots are all across the Middle East, especially in Syria. The #KitsForRefugees event was an important opportunity for me to reconnect to that part of my identity and to serve those whose homeland is also mine. I couldn’t be happier with my PowrServ volunteer experience. Everyone I worked with was so enthusiastic and passionate about the cause. It was truly beautiful to see men and women empowering women and children overseas.

I attended the event in NYC - Faith and Heart: Uniting to Help Syrian Refugees. PowrServ was amazing! The staff was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Packing hygiene kits gave volunteers a meaningful, hands-on way to help Syrian refugees. PowrServ is great and I would highly recommend them!
